Horse + Bamboo brings the first film night of the season with a special screening of documentary : Iron Ladies (12A) alongside puppet show : ‘Car Boot Knitted Theatre: Woolly Minds Under Woolly Hats’ by Helen Davies.

Puppet Show will start at 7pm in Horse + Bamboo’s garden, followed by documentary screening at 7.30pm in Horse + Bamboo’s theatre.

From Rossendale artist, Helen Davies – ‘Woolly Minds Under Woolly Hats’ tells the true story of Pat and Rae, Rochdale legends who have spent their lives protesting nuclear weapons.  In the 1980s they travelled to Greenham Common and held local protests in Rochdale. They’re still going, in their 80s, and are regulars at Manchester protests, even getting themselves arrested.  This short performance tells stories of Pat and Rae’s escapades through song, dance and of course, knitted puppets.

Please note – the PUPPET SHOW will be held outdoors in H+B’s Garden.  Please come to the box office as usual on arrival but dress for the weather!

Iron Ladies tells the story of the working-class women who, during the 1984–85 Miners’ Strike, found themselves at the forefront of a battle against the British state.  From Scotland to Kent, women from the coalfields shed light on their experiences of the year long struggle, and how they became the backbone of the Strike.With many still active today, the actions of these iron-willed women reshaped the landscape of political activism for working-class women.
