Arts Award

Arts Award Discover is an introductory award, designed for ages 5 and above, but is open to children and young people aged up to 25.

To achieve an Arts Award Discover, children and young people collect evidence in an individual arts log of their experiences of:

taking part in arts activities
researching artists or craftspeople and their work
sharing their arts discoveries

Arts Award Explore is an Entry Level (Entry 3) qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and is designed for ages 7 and above, but is open to children and young people aged up to 25.

To achieve an Arts Award Explore, children and young people collect evidence in an individual arts log of their experiences of:

• taking part in a range of arts activities, including a personal response about what has inspired them about taking part
• the work of artists or craftspeople and arts organisations
• creating a piece of art work
• sharing with others what they have enjoyed and/or achieved through completing their Arts Award

Bronze Arts Award is a Level 1 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and is open to young people aged 11 to 25.

To achieve a Bronze Arts Award, young people collect evidence in an individual arts log or portfolio of their experiences of:

• actively participating in any art form
• at least one arts event and their review of that event
• researching the career and work of an artist or craftsperson
• passing on an arts skill

Silver Arts Award is a Level 2 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and is designed for ages 14 and above, but is open to young people aged 11 to 25.

To achieve a Silver Arts Award, young people collect evidence in an individual arts portfolio of their experiences of:

Arts practice and pathways

• identifying and planning an arts challenge
• implementing and reviewing their arts challenge
• reviewing arts events and sharing their views
• researching future opportunities and careers in the arts

Arts leadership

• identifying a leadership role and planning the project’s aims
• planning the practical issues
• being an effective arts leader
• working effectively with others

We regularly run after school participatory workshops for ages 7 to 11, where participants will have the opportunity to complete an Arts Award level!  Check out our What’s On calendar to see dates for the latest workshops.

Whether it’s circus skills, animation or parade making – we have an Arts Award Workshop to suit everyone.  All of our Arts Award workshops are free to attend, depending on the level of Arts Award, there can be an accreditation cost (up to £13.50) your workshop leader will discuss this with you in advance.

There are several ways we can assist with your Arts Award offer in school;

• We can delivering custom session(s) or to sit as part of your curriculum, or after school clubs.
• We can offer young people 11+ who come to Horse + Bamboo on work experience or work placement the opportunity to complete either their Bronze or Silver Arts Award alongside their placement.
• Or by helping you on your Arts Award journey by coming in to talk to those taking part in Arts Award as both as Arts Organisation and also by bringing artists into your school.
• We are also here to help with advice and can help to connect you with other arts organisations to help you along your Arts Award journey.

Arts Award is accredited by Trinity College and is widely recognised and respected by education establishments nationwide, as well as in the workplace.

Arts Award supports the National Curriculum in developing art as a tool for personal achievement, improving analytical skills, and “equipping children with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art”.
